EASTWARD is a fast-paced top-down cyberpunk action roguelike with RPG and simulation elements. Most games in this genre feature lone heroes who fight their way through hordes of enemies, get equipment to make them stronger, move on to new stages and repeat until they die. The hero will evolve from a simple one-hit wonder to an unstoppable killing machine, though the difficulty increases proportionally until he reaches his final boss... That's not how EASTWARD works. EASTWARD starts the player with a simple character, a robot that can jump and shoot a gun. He will have to face the world from the inside with all his being, being compromised by treacherous allies and formidable foes. The player's view never changes, but he will have constant contact with the players around him through their actions and remarks. In order to survive in this dangerous world, he will have to learn how to think like them, what they want and how they fight. Both solo and cooperative gameplay are available: Up to four players can share the adventure while playing on one computer. Other players can join in the game at any time to be part of the missions they are already playing, or to complete missions they have missed. The player will have to face a dynamic world with simultaneous real-time gameplay that dynamically shifts into turn-based mode during exploration, giving each player an equal role. EASTWARD is inspired by various games in the cyberpunk genre, especially the RPG aspect of Hardwar, Deus Ex and Syndicate. The game references other games in its genres when necessary for gameplay purposes. Planned platforms: PC, Mac, Linux. As a robot, the main character will have a set of skills and powers that will help him progress through the game. He can learn new abilities from other characters he meeted during his adventure. He also has a life bar that determines how many hits he can take. Health packs and healing agents are available to replenish it. The main robot will have three different looks to choose from at the beginning of the game, or unlock later on (see Stretch Goals). Other playable robots available with upgrading (see Stretch Goals) can also join the player during missions. These robots are made for specific roles, like healing, supporting or attacking. They can be upgraded to make them more effective, with better weapons or new abilities. The world is divided into several sectors that the player can visit freely. Each area has its own feel and theme that match the story behind it. This way, some areas will remind the player of retro-futuristic cities while others will be more discreet and cold feeling. Each sector will have special sectors with an easy or difficult access depending on the main character's level of competence at the time he arrives in this zone.
